September 2nd Update.
1. Tom Hanks- Saving Mr. Banks
Tom Hanks looks poised to rejoin the Oscar race for the first time in 13 years. (It's been that long). Hanks plays the iconic Walt Disney in a biography about bringing the Mary Poppins story to life. I have questions about the film overall, but Hanks should be a hit.
2. Jared Leto- Dallas Buyers Club
Jared Leto has been getting terrific early notices as a transgender HIV patient in Dallas Buyers Club. Not only does the role sound baity in itself, he also went through a tremendous physical transformation as well, weighing as little as 116 pounds during filming.
3. Michael Fassbender- 12 Years a Slave
Fassbender plays the evil slave owner in Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave. Fassbender has gained a lot of respect the last few years, especially when he just missed out for Shame. The villain role has been a staple for Best Supporting Actor, and I expect Fassbender to be rewarded here.
4. Daniel Bruhl- Rush
You may remember Bruhl as Frederik Zoller in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. This time, he's playing am intense formula 1 driver in Rush, an incredible true story from Ron Howard. Early notices have been outstanding.
5. Jonah Hill- The Wolf of Wall Street
Jonah Hill will star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street. It's an interesting role in a high profile film. Hill managed to pull off a nomination for Moneyball. Now he gets to work with one of the best. We'll see what happens.

I'm pretty much thinking the same thing right now, with Renner as an alternate somewhere.
